He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Thurston Dinkel and Vina Virginia Welch Dinkel; his wife Susanna Mercer Dinkel; and his siblings, Doris McManama, Mildred Overstreet and Lewis Dinkel.
He is survived by: his children, Angela Marie Simmons, Karen Dinkel Jones and James Gregory Dinkel (Pam); and his siblings, Russell Dinkel, Reva Wheat (Owen) and Linda McGhee (Larry). He is also survived by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
