She was predeceased by: her parents, Helen Tate Hamler (Malachi Hamler, Jr.) and Nettie; and her husband Mitchel Smiley. She is survived by: her daughters, Susan Mitchell and Sharon Smiley; her granddaughters, Janai, Jaila and Lauryn; her great grandchild Leilani; her son-in-law Carl Mitchell; and her sister Etta Tricksey. She is also survived by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a nursing scholarship in honor of Nettie; The Smiling Nurses Scholarship, being managed by The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier, is designed to provide financial assistance to aspiring nurses enrolled in an accredited nursing program within the United States.
