With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Michael Kelly of Leesburg, Virginia, born in Norfolk, Virginia, who passed away on October 12, 2023 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Curtis and Betty Kelly; his daughters, Kristin and Hillary; his grandchildren, Julia, Dean Hildner, Nolan, Aidan Bashore, Abby and Mia Klein; and also, Jerry Kelly, Tom Kelly and Tish Butler.

“The U. S. Naval Academy Class of 1966 mourns the loss of our beloved classmate, LtCol Mike Kelly, USMC (Ret.). Mike epitomized our class motto, "non sibi sed patriae," not for self but for country. He was highly respected for his character and leadership and served for five years as our class president. A quintessential Marine, Mike served honorably in Viet Nam, a conflict which claimed the lives of 16 of his classmates. Our condolences and deep sympathy to Peggy and the family.”
