He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Howard Wayne Smith and Claribel Morris Smith; and his siblings, Howard Wayne Smith, Jr. and Gretchen Buntschuh. He is survived by: his wife Milvia Budellazze Smith; and his grandchildren, Alexandra Lee, Noah Paucek and Henry Paucek.
