He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Peebles Whitby and Jennie Mae Wilson Whitby; his wife Edna Gibson Whitby; his son Jeff Riegel; his grandson Coty Mills; and his siblings, Lottie Mayton, Bertie Powell, Louise Clary, Addie Mayton, Christine Moore, Lillian Clary, Bessie House, Arthur Whitby, Raymond Whitby and Ed Whitby.
He is survived by: his children, Darrell Riegel (Andrea), Denise Moore (Thurman) and Renee Mills (Ricky); his grandchildren, Jami Elliott (James), Shane Moore, Kristin Andrade (Matt), Brianne Hostutler (Andrew), Andy Riegel (Bethany), Hannah Riegel, Damon Cash, Shasta Ayala (Josue), Kacee Mullins (Jesse), Savannah Hart (Buddha), Bryan King (April) and Colette Yeatts (Jeremy); and his brothers, Willie C. Whitby and Emory F. Whitby. He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Williams Funeral Home and Crematory (410 Windsor Ave, Lawrenceville, VA 23868). A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 15th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
