She was predeceased by: her parents, Mary Adell Sykes Walker and Henry Walker of Jarrett Virginia; her spouse Hurley Yates; her daughters, Gladys Yates and Bertha Yates Hill; her sisters, Geneva Williams of Hampton Roads, VA and Bernice Thomas; and her siblings-in-law, Maurice Hackett, Junior Stith, Willie Thomas, George Williams, Paul, Roosevelt, Marion, William, Henry Yates, Emma Ruth Malone, Rita, Elizabeth and Celestine Yates.
She is survived by: her children, Gracie Harris (George), Thomas Yates, Samuel Yates (Florence), Jessie Yates, Alice Yates Gonzalez (Gilbert), Laurel of Maryland, James Yates (Margie), Rodney Yates and Roger Yates; her sister Dorlena Stith of Emporia, VA; her sisters-in-law, Catherine and Daisy; and her grandchild Thomas Yates (Alicia). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
