He was predeceased by: his mother Hazel Merritt; his brothers, James Earl and Michael Merritt; and his aunts, Ollie Adams and Corrie Merritt.
He is survived by: his father Joe Merritt of Baltimore, MD; his girlfriend Sarah Dugger; his stepchildren, Regina Bland (Eric) and Charles Adams (Alicia) of Valentines, VA; his stepgrandchildren, Marcellus Bland (Brittany), Maurice Bland, Dexter Avent, Cuyree Johnson, Alexis Adams and Ikeera Coleman; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Mariyah Bland, Princess Adams, Anayah Bland and Kadel Rentals; his siblings, Joyce Johnson of Lawrenceville, VA, John Merritt (Liz) and Melinda Pearson (Lynn); his uncle Matthew Merritt of Valentines, VA; his nephews, Orlando Merritt (Monica) of Chester, VA, Gary Johnson of Lunenburg, VA and Jamon Holt of Athens, GA; his niece Garetta Johnson of Lawrenceville, VA; and his cousins, Nathaniel Roberts (Kelly) of Norlina, NC, Frances Callis (Lawrence), Demetrice Cain (Milton) and Deborah Merritt. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bethany Baptist Church (1532 Western Mill Rd, Lawrenceville, VA 23887). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, April 5th 2025 at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery (1532 Western Mill Rd, Lawrenceville, VA 23887).
