He was predeceased by: his parents, Welford Lee and Pauline Whay Ashburn; his wife Sarah Frances Dodson; his siblings, Bessie Evans, James Ashburn, Sr., Eugene Ashburn and William Ashburn; and his grandson Charles Lee Ashburn, Jr..

He is survived by: his sons, Charles Lee Ashburn, Sr. (Dianna Armstrong), David Wayne Ashburn (Corrie) and Welford Christopher Ashburn (Tracey); his brother Robert Ashburn; and his friend James Folan. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
