He is survived by: his wife Rachel Upton Smith of La Crosse; his daughters, Diane Layne (Billy) of La Crosse, Rochelle Smith of La Crosse, Patricia Smith Quinn (Jon) of La Crosse and Amanda Smith Sasser (Gary) of La Crosse; his grandchildren, Jonathan Layne (Lindsey), Matthew Layne, Sydney Clark (Corey), Carrington Sasser and Maddox Sasser; his great grandchildren, Alex Layne, Owen Layne and Bradley Layne; and his siblings, Douglas Smith (Lois) of South Hill, Naomi Andrews of Baskerville and Willie Bob Smith, Jr. (Edwina) of South Hill.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory (1504 N Mecklenburg Ave, South Hill, VA 23970). A funeral service was held on Sunday, December 8th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the New Hope Baptist Church (255 Union Mill Rd, La Crosse, VA 23950). A burial was held on Sunday, December 8th 2024 at the Crosse Cemetery.
