He was predeceased by: his parents, John Norwood McCarty and Mary Haynie McCarty; and his sister Mary Alice Glancy. He is survived by: his children, Robert Don McCarty and Kelly McCarty Sanders (Lee) of Warsaw; his grandchildren, Master Sergeant Adam McCarty (Amanda), Chelsea McCarty (David) and Garnet (Jackie); and his great grandchildren, Addison McCarty, Audrey McCarty and Wrenn Sanders.
