He was predeceased by: his parents, Rochal Johnson and Readie Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Cook Johnson; his daughters, Martha Garber (Frank), Susan Clark (Rusty) and Valerie Clark; his grandchildren, James Clark III (Jackie), Catherine Foster, Kimberly Scarboro (Brian) and Emily Clark; and his brother Norman Johnson. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
