He was predeceased by: his son Christopher Garrett; his parents, Ralph Garrett and Dolly Garrett; and his brothers, Teddy, Kenny and Timothy Garrett.

He is survived by: his sons, Chad Garrett and Gerald Garrett, Jr. of Newark, OH; and his siblings, Junior Garrett (Nancy) of New Hudson, MI and Kristina Herndon of Keokee, VA. He is also survived by many grandsons and granddaughters.
