He was predeceased by: his parents, George Penley and Effie Robinette Penley of Jonesville, VA; and his siblings, Ray Hurd of Lee County, Kyle Hurd of Lee County, Dail Roger Penley of Lee County and Ruby Lambert of Florida.
He is survived by: his son Emory Claude (Judy Sergent Penley) of Tazewell, VA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made to Samaritans Purse or St. Jude Childrens hospital.
