He was predeceased by: his parents, John Fitts and Mary Fitts (Allen); and his siblings, Gladys Cody, Vivian Moore, Verda Edwards, Marie Carter, Ransom Fitts, Alice Fitts and Elizabeth Cody.

He is survived by: his wife Janet "Tinkie" Fitts; his children, Janet "Jill" Wright (James) of Inwood, WV, Nona Payne (Rick) of Charles Town, WV and Jack Phillips (Anna) of Dickerson, MD; his grandchildren, Jackie, Melissa Wiles and Dennis "DJ" Painter; his great grandchildren, Janet Frye (Jason), A. J. Fitts and Nona Smith; his great great grandchild Jayden Slevin; his sister Louise Dunn of Greenville, TN; and his nieces, Charlotte Grove, Alice Cody and Nina Phillips.
