He was predeceased by: his parents, Boyd Newman and Ocie Burchett Newman; and his sisters, Martha Myers and Iris Dodson. He is survived by: his children, Tina Newman of Fries, Virginia, James Hodges of Ivanhoe, Virginia and Jeff Newman of Fries Virginia; his sister Peggy of Roanoke, Virginia; his adoptive son Mitch Sylvester; his stepson Christopher Kelly; his grandchildren, Korie Hodges of Christiansburg, Virginia, Devin Newman of Galax, Virginia, Amber Todd of Galax, Virginia and Kelsy Burchett of Fries, Virginia; and his former wife Olivia Kelly. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
