He was predeceased by: his parents, Anderson Parker Short and Florence Brizentine Short; his wife Doris Elliott Short; and his sons, Ralph Lee Short and William Richard Short, Jr..
He is survived by: his sons, Robert Short of Hurt, Ray Short of Hurt and Randy Short of Hurt; and his grandchildren, Richard Short III (Molly) of Chatham and Angela Renee Yeatts of Chatham. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
