He was predeceased by: his parents, Parker "Putt" Short and Mary "Josie" Motley Short; and his siblings-in-law, Shirley Shelton, Melba Davis and Claude Davis.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Dalton Short; his children, Denise S. Godfrey (Terry) of Gretna, David Short (Delane) of Hurt and Philip Short (Heather) of Hurt; his grandchildren, Stacey Simpson (Derick), Cory Godfrey, Brooke Short, Chase Short, Seth Short (Savanna), Shane Short, Brianna Short and Spencer Short; his great grandchildren, Collin Simpson, Atlee Simpson, Jasper Short and Archie Short; his sister Elma Shelton of Loris, SC; his aunt Dorene Haynes of Graham, NC; his brother-in-law Ned Shelton of Gretna; and his close friend William Davis.
