It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nelson Washington Simpson of Hurt, Virginia, who passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. As Nelson Washington departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Nelson Washington may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Nelson Washington leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Glady Lee Simpson and Bessie Faris Simpson; and his brother Stanley Simpson. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Wood Simpson; his sister Janice Brown (Jimmy) of Hurt; his sister-in-law Judy Simpson of Hurt; his niece Kelly Osborne (Scott); and his nephews, Grant Simpson (Courtney), Patrick Brown (Shelley) and Justin Brown (Crystal).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Colbert-Moran Funeral Home (307 Main St, Gretna, VA 24557). A graveside service was held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden North Main.
