Bates; his cousin James Rogers "Scoot"; his wife Melissa A. Bates of Hurt, Virginia; his children, Taliyah Bates of Fayetteville, NC, Aliyah Bates of Lynchburg, VA and Howson F. Bates, IV of Appomattox, VA; his stepdaughters, Marissa Hudson (Jachai) of Lynchburg, VA and Shaniece Kirby of Martinsville, VA; his siblings, Lamont Bates (Andrea) of Roanoke, VA, Robert Bates of Jacksonville, FL, Arlene Bates of Brookneal and Shanika Bates of Lynchburg, VA; his father-in-law John C. Patterson of New Ellenton, SC; his sisters-in-law, Charlene Patterson of Mebane, NC and Shaneka Oakman of Aiken, SC; his grandmother Thelma Pannell of Brookneal, VA; his aunts, Lesia Bates of Brooklyn, NY, Lorisa Bates of Brooklyn, NY and Patricia Spinner of Lynchburg, VA; his caregiver Jacqueline Callands; his sisters, Beverly Cunningham of Hurt, VA and Tiffany Brown of Lynchburg, VA; and his close friend Chaunston Gray of Farmville, VA. He was also cherished by two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Friday, November 22nd 2024 at the Funeral Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service (304 Lusardi Dr, Brookneal, VA 24528).
