He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Elmer Shelton and Ruby Brumfield Shelton. He is survived by: his son Lance Shelton (Dana) of Rustburg; his sister Brenda Thompson of Hurt; his grandchildren, Chelsea Dillard (Joey) and Sommer Shelton; his great grandchildren, Lily Ray and Linkin Dillard; his niece Angela Francis (Paul, Jr.); his nephew Tim Thompson (Rhonda); his great-nephew Roy Morgan; and his great-nieces, Hannah Abbott (Johnathan) and Leah Boley (Christopher).

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center.
