He was predeceased by: his father Carl Eugene "Johnny" Thompson. He is survived by: his mother Mary Louise Miller Thompson of Honaker; his son James David Thompson of Honaker; and his siblings, Carl Wayne Thompson (Teresa) of Raven, Catherine Hess (Leon) of Cleveland, Nancy McGhee (Gary) of Cedar Bluff, Lisa Cook of Lebanon and Amy Musick (Earl) of Chesapeake. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
