He is survived by: his children, Brien Hughes (Susan), Steve Hughes (Meagan), Maura MacMahon (Brian) and Phil Hughes (Alyssa); his grandchildren, Anna, David, Daniel Hughes, Payden, Hailey Hughes and Luke MacMahon; his sister Mary O'Brien (George); and the mother of his children Cheryl Hughes Garr. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Legacy Fund.
