She was predeceased by: her parents, Nelson Whetzel and Ada Simon Whetzel; her husband Richard James Murphy; and her siblings, Velma Hockman, Violet Whetzel, Boyd and Vernon "Pat" Whetzel.
She is survived by: her children, Evelyn Marie McAbee of Elkton, Lurline "Lee Lee" Breeden (Richard) of Elkton, Keith "Box" Simmers of Linville and Ruth Simmers Domzalski (John) of Tenth Legion. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lindsey Funeral Home (473 S Main St, Harrisonburg, VA 22801). A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 10th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
