He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bertram and Martha Vada Sager Custer; his wife Deborah Kaye Wilfong Custer; and his siblings, John Custer, W. Y. Custer and Yvonne Steyer.
He is survived by: his children, Joshua Custer of Washington, DC and Ashley Hearl of Waynesboro; his sister Phyllis Whetzel of Broadway; and his grandchildren, Brea McIntyre (Trey) of Jacksonville, NC, Callie Custer (Jared Mcmillen) of Kenova, WV and Eli Ryman of Harrisonburg.
