She was predeceased by : her husband Stephen H. Porter; her parents, Robert E. Mays and Florence Mays; her daughter Patricia Laxton; her great grandchild David Lawson; and her siblings, Susie (Sid), Billie (Willie), Betty (Mac), Robert "Bud" Mays (Jean), Raymond Mays and Helen Childress (Farley).

She is survived by : her sister Shirley Jones (Lee); her grandchildren, Ed Wells (Brenda), Rick Wells, Douglas Laxton, Pam Collins, George Huffman (Christie) and Nancy; her great grandchildren, Cameron Wells, Elexa Peters (David), Dakota Wells and Noah Wells; her great great grandchild River Peters; her son-in-law Doug Laxton; and also Jean.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 6th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Oakey's Vinton Chapel (627 Hardy Rd, Vinton, VA 24179). A funeral service was held on Friday, June 7th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
