He was predeceased by: his significant other Carolyn Jeffries Tanner; his parents, Hilda Ryland Townsend Tanner and Elam Lee Tanner, Jr.; his siblings, Elizabeth "Chic" Granger-Miller, Elam Lee Tanner, III and William Eldridge Tanner; and his great grandchild Kayleigh Marie Armstrong.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard Warren Tanner and Brent Edward Tanner; his grandchildren, Lauren, Victoria Tanner and Richard "Richie" Watt Tanner; his great grandchildren, Blaisen, Layleigh, Brooklyn, Camdyn and Jaxson Armstrong; and his sister Nancy Fowler Berry. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 11th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home (8014 Lee Davis Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111). A graveside service was held on Thursday, December 12th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Forest Lawn Cemetery (4000 Pilots Ln, Richmond, VA 23222).
