He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Purtell and Margaret Purtell of Manassas, VA; his brother Patrick Purtell (Sharon) of Culpeper, VA; his brother-in-law George Sanders of Manassas, VA; and his mother-in-law Patricia Lockett of Fredericksburg, VA..
He is survived by: his wife Linda S. Purtell; his stepchildren, Joseph L. Phipps and Patricia J. Allen; his father-in-law Richard Semerjian (Ellen); his sister-in-law Diane Young; and his siblings, Jim Purtell (Kathy), Jane Sanders, Mary Elliott, Christine Purtell and Sam Purtell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
