He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Milford Barnes and Elzena Barnes of Wilkes Barre, PA; his brother Dr. Gerald Barnes of St Paul, MN; and his pet Sophie. He is survived by: his wife Janet Micocci Barnes; his sons, Jeffrey (Fallon) and Jonathan (Ila); his grandchildren, Kaylee, Spencer, Cooper and Gavin; his sisters-in-law, Dr. Val Evje, Lisa Jacenich, Dawn White, Nancy Micocci and Debbie Micocci; and his nieces, Maria Pike and Jennifer Barnes.
