She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Thaniel and Nelia Thaniel; her husband Joseph Lee James, Sr.; and her siblings, Thomas, John Thaniel, Iretha White and Arrow Mitchell (Elizabeth).
She is survived by: her children, Shirley Clarke (Thomas) of Caroline County, Joseph L. James Jr. (Tillie) of Caroline County, Mark James (Sherry) of Caroline County, Elsie Annette James-Tyree (Dwayne) of Bel Air, Maryland and Patricia Hatcher (Basil) of Caroline County; her grandchildren, Kristyn James-Fox, KiJuanis Smith, Jermaine Derricott, Sr., Brandon James, Lavar James, Mark James Jr., Jamie Hatcher and Cami Hatcher; her great grandchildren, Jorryn Fox, Taylor, Jason, Carter Smith, Jermaine Derricott Jr., Saaniyah Coleman, Pryce Derricott, Miles, Zora James, Markerra, Maleigha and Xavier James; her sisters, Naomi White, Lora Thompson, Vernell Cary (James) and Verna Thaniel; and her siblings-in-law, Ruth, Bernice Thaniel, Shirley James, Richard White and James Carey.
