He was predeceased by: his wife Mary A. Meares; his stepson Robert "Bobby" Silver; his parents, Mattie Q. Meares and William B. Meares; and his siblings, Rosa J. Little, Jefferson, Robert W. Meares, Cecil W. Meares and Virgil W. Meares.

He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Anna Stoops, Lucia "Cookie" Burt, Donald C. Meares and Richard B. Meares. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
