She was predeceased by: her parents, Fuller McKinney and Alice Estes McKinney; and her siblings, Nod McKinney, Sarah Staton and Elizabeth "Becky" Sprouse.

She is survived by: her husband Norman Lee Powell; her daughters, Remonia L. Hayes of Newport News, Belinda G. Curtis (Tony) of Yorktown and Beatrice A. Smith (Douglas) of Poquoson; her sister Betty Oakley of Elizabeth City; her grandchildren, Lisa M. Hassler (Chuck), Jeff L. Snow (Nicole), Hunter A. Smith (Samantha) and Taylor A. N. Curtis; and her great grandchildren, Brady L. Snow, Trey M. Snow and Hayden E. Smith. She is also survived by extended family and close friends.
