She was predeceased by: her parents, Dahl Bess and Carrie Staton Bess; her husband Rufus Pegues; her daughter Doris B. Taylor; and her siblings, Lois Bess, Esther Barnes, Jack Bess, Harold Bess, Gregory Bess and Willie Bess.
She is survived by: her brothers, Bobby Bess (Evoria) and George Bess (Janice); her son Scott Bess, Jr. (Maxine); her grandchildren, William Taylor (Van), Sherri Ann Kinght, Eric Lamont Bess (Jacqueline), Scott A. Bess (Rhashida) and Matthew D. Bess (Najaida); her godson Thomas Dawes; and her cousin Melynda Holmes. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
