He was predeceased by: his parents, Doris Denton and Preston Murphy. He is survived by: his children, Sean Murphy (Anita) and Deborah Thomas (Dereck); his grandchildren, Andru Murphy, Ava, Alexa and Ashton Thomas; his stepfather Charlie Denton; his mother-in-law Carol Taylor; and his siblings, George (Marsha), Ronnie (Kathy), Mark Murphy, Pat Harrell Murphy and Crystal Murphy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
