He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Hill and Leanor Hill; his daughter Gayle Hill; and his brothers, Richard, George, Eugene and James Hill.
He is survived by: his wife Cerita Hill; his children, Herman Jr. (Wanda), Darrell, Gary (Erica), Isaac (Shalesha), Lolita Battle (Pernell) and Sonya Brown (Greg); and his sisters, Nora Hill, Susie Freeman and Glenda Hicks (Luther). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
