He was predeceased by: his parents, Elizabeth Merrill Dawson Burton and Benjamin Carroll Burton; his former wife Annie Mae Burton; his wife Florence Burton; his sister Thelma Burton Swan (Grayson Swan); and his stepdaughter Carolyn Beshkar.

He is survived by: his children, George Glen Burton (Judi) and Cindy Bowen (Bobby); his stepdaughter Sally Blythe; his grandchildren, Tyler Mason Burton and Faith Hunt (Evan); his stepgranddaughter Blythe; and his sister-in-law Frances Burton (Emory). He is also survived by his family, friends.
