He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Smith and Edna Smith (Souder); his brother Vernon; and his daughter Cheryl Pope. He is survived by: his wife Joy Smith; his sons, Joseph Melancon (Becky Haines) of Hamilton, VA, Arthur Melancon (Karen) of Hamilton, VA and Dean Smith (Bridget) of Owatonna, MN; and his grandchildren, Joy Patterson (Tim) of Winchester, VA, Cheryl, David and Tanner Smith of Owatonna, MN..
