He was predeceased by: his father Jess Wayne Yates; his sisters, Deborah Jean Sexton and Sharon Kay Yates; his grandparents, Earl, Gusta Yates, Oliver and Edna Willis; and his father-in-law Leonard F. Matney.
He is survived by: his mother Orbie June Yates (Willis) of Grundy, VA; his daughter Kristina Michelle Carter (Kenneth Wayne) of Harman, VA; his grandchildren, Kory Wayne Carter and Kelli Nicole Carter of Harman, VA; his sisters, Margaret Yates Ashby (Billy) of Harman, VA, Zona Yates Deel (Glenn) of Grundy, VA and Very; and his mother-in-law Dorothy Lucille "Peggy" Matney. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
