He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Wheeler and Abbie Keen Vandyke; his wife Mable Lucille Ward Vandyke; and his sons, Daniel Dewayne, William Ray "Billy" and Sammy Joseph Vandyke (Gladys Horn).
He is survived by: his children, Donna Ray of Grundy, VA, Brad Vandyke of Grundy, VA and Randall Vandyke of Johnson City, TN; his siblings, Evelyn Ward of Pilgrims Knob, VA, Jean Leonard of Patterson, VA, Virgie Keen of Patterson, VA, Ida Childress of Patterson, VA, Trula Bell Ball of Dearborn Heights, MI, C. B. Vandyke of Pilgrims Knob, VA, Lewis Vandyke and Dennis Vandyke of Patterson, VA; his daughter-in-law Wanda Vandyke of Vansant, VA.; and his grandchildren, Dwayne "Chubby" Cook, Grant Cook, Santana Vandyke and Kyle Vandyke. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
