He is survived by: his fiancée Pauline Maria Davis of Grundy, VA; his children, Nora Jane Smith (Joe) of Grundy, VA, Kimberly Thornsbury of Bailey, NC, Ricky Lee Thornsbury (Mackie) of Abingdon, VA, Paul Richard Thornsbury (Sharon) and Aaron EdisonThornsbury (Loretta) of Grundy, VA; his siblings, June Huey (Glen) of Collegedale, TN, Juanita Mann of Shelbyville, IN and Aaron Ellis Thornsbury (Janet) of Shelbyville, IN.; his grandchildren, Joe David Smith, II (Peggy), Suzannie Mechella Petro (Joseph), Erica Lynn Visi (Chris), Stephannie Lynn Kennedy (Chris), Kristie Ann Ward, McKenzie Lee Thornsbury, Mary Kaitlyn Stonestreet, Russell Thornsbury and Ruchelle Thornsbury; his great grandchildren, Emilee Jade Smith, Daniel Shade Thornsbury, Jane Melena Petro, Joseph Paul Petro, III, Madison Jai Smith, William David Petro and Colton Stonestreet; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Megan Bagley (Austin), Jacob Hurley, Ethan Spencer, Cierra Spencer, Maddison Hurley and Mashayla Skeens; his stepgrandchildren, Kara Davis, Alia Davis, Denver Hess and Jonathan Hess; and his granddaughter Brookelynn Bagley.
