It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gertrude Fern Burts of Grundy, Virginia, who passed away on December 12, 2024, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Whitney Sr. and Virginia Couch Whitney; and her brother Charles Whitney. She is survived by: her husband Edward Taylor Burts; her children, Heather Wicks (Roger) and Bruce Booker, Jr. (Nina); her grandchildren, Trinity Hackney, Lela Booker, Jake Booker and John Booker; her great grandchildren, Elijah and Ezekiel; and her siblings, Thomas James Whitney, II (Rhonda) and Joanne Simpkins (Ken).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Singleton Funeral and Cremation Service (1116 Cedar Valley Dr, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
