He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hurt Saunders and Betty Blanch Brown Saunders; and his siblings, Ruth Saunders, Elizabeth Divers, Holsie Saunders, James "Brack" Saunders, Otis Saunders, Henry "Leo" Saunders and Earl "Bunny" Saunders.
He is survived by: his children, Ricky Lee Saunders (Tammy) of Gretna, Daniel Saunders of Chatham, Katie Updike (Norman) of Gretna, Rebecca Moore (Joseph) of Sutherlin and Megan Ravenell (Ryan) of Burlington, NC; and his sister Betty Jean Bolling (Raleigh) of Gretna. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
