It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Areta Haden Gibson of Gretna, Virginia, who passed away on May 4, 2023, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family in the guestbook on this memorial page of Areta Haden Gibson to show support.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Walter Parrish Haden and Mirla Cocke Haden; her brother Clay Haden; and her brother-in-law Billy May. She is survived by: her husband James Gibson; her daughters, Daphne Hubbard (David) of Gretna, Jane Sams (Jeff) of Gretna and Shelly Tantillo (Danny) of Gretna, LA; her sister Nellie May of Somerville; her grandchildren, James Kessner (Michelle) of Fort Benning, GA, Brandon Kessner (Katie) of Gretna, LA, Tyler Hubbard (Celeste) of Danville, Amanda Sams of Virginia Beach, Abby Sams (Aaron Scoville) of Alexandria and Chastity Crider (Keith) of Chatham; her great grandchildren, Taylor Kessner, Bella Kessner, Alaina Bedford, Jupiter Hubbard and Sage Crider; and also, Tammy Fielder, Tammy Betterton and Paige Morris. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
We would also like to thank Gretna Health and Rehab for taking care of Rita on many occasions, including through the pandemic, and providing a home away from home to her when it was most important.
