She was predeceased by: her husband Wilmer Cowherd Jr.; her children, Cynthia Madison and Wilmer Cowherd III; her grandsons, Gerard Cowherd Sr. and Jayden Cowherd; and her siblings, Mattie Ethel Barnett, Garfield Towles Jr. and Herman Towles.
She is survived by: her daughters, Anita Hawkins (Andre) of Charlottesville, Sheila Nixon (Nick) of Charlottesville and Karen Ray of Charlottesville; her son-in-law Eugene Madison of Burke; and her siblings, Edith Pitcher of Orange, Rufus Towles Sr. of Orange, Molly Young of Orange, Shelby Minor of Orange and Marva Towles of Beloit.
