She was predeceased by: her parents, Joe Rock and Martha Hepler Rock; her husband Alvin Eugene Bates; and her siblings, Joe W. Rock, Sr. and Joyce Shires.
She is survived by: her children, Donna Shiflett (T. D.) of Richmond, Rhonda Gilbert of Yorktown and Jerry Bates (Casie) of Gloucester; her grandchildren, Brandi Ward of Gloucester, Krystle Ries (Justin) of Gloucester, David Bates (Samantha) of Gloucester and Timothy Jones (Kaitlin) of Esmont; and her siblings, Juanita Dressler, Barbara Deisher, Raymond Rock, Terry Rock (Dana) and Jeter Rock. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
