He was predeceased by: his parents, John Junior Dent and Vera Powell Dent; and his sister-in-law Hazel Johnson Dent. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Altice Dent; his children, Mary Katherine "Kathy" Sink (Barry) and Jeff Alan Dent (Emily); his grandchildren, Michael Underwood and Sara Pendleton (Jessy); his great grandchild Owen Underwood; his brothers, Donnie Dent and Steve Dent (Kaye); his stepgranddaughter Shaina; his nieces and nephews, Jeanette Dent (David Beeghly), Stephanie Smith (Eric), Nathan Dent (Erin) and Katilin Dent (Chris); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Brittany Greenwood, Josh Blankenship (Cheyenne), Rylee and Adalee; his close friends, Billie, Martha Hubbard, Mark Hudzik and Yokohama; and also, Madison and Ryder.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the church (405 Tanyard Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151) or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
