It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sammy Richard Gillenwater of Gate City, Virginia, born in Kingsport, Tennessee, who passed away on December 17, 2023, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Emerson Gillenwater and Margie Gillenwater (Presley); and his siblings, Betty Bitting, Clayton Gillenwater, Jackie Gillenwater and Leland Gillenwater.
He is survived by: his siblings, Gency Lou Gillenwater, Barbara Fitzpatrick (George), Darrell Gillenwater, Dwight Wayne Gillenwater, Michael A. Gillenwater (Jennifer) and Dennis K. Gillenwater (Tina). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gate City Funeral Home, to help with funeral expenses.
