He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmitt Akers and Nancy Ellen Akers (Owens); and his siblings, Lucille, Georgie, Cathleen, Helen, Junior and Carlos.
He is survived by: his wife Reba Akers of Gate City, VA; and his children, Patricia Brown (Teddy), Jimmy Douglas Akers of Gate City, VA, Freddy Akers of Kingsport, TN, Robert Akers (Tracey) of Kingsport, TN and Michael Akers (Kristy) of Kingsport, TN. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
