He was predeceased by: his parents, Burley Clark and Ida Burcham Smith; his wife Mattie Lois Williams Smith; and his brothers, Paul, Homer, Willard, Kyle and Billy Smith.
He is survived by: his daughters, Barbara (Ben Turman) and Brenda (David Benfield); his siblings, Joyce Patton of Charlotte and B. C.; his sister-in-law Ann Smith of Galax, Virginia; his grandchildren, Daniel, Haley Turman, Julie, Chris Wingfield and Jonathan Benfield; his great grandchildren, Neveah, Memphis Wingfield, Hazel and Mattie Turman; and his sister-in-law Phyllis.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church (3350 Meadow Creek Rd, Galax, VA 24333) or the Meadow Creek Cemetery Fund (c/o Dale Higgins 3930 Delhart Rd. Galax, VA 24333).
