He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Murphy and Josephine Bailey Murphy; his wife Della Jane Horton Murphy; and his sibling Vergie Meakin. He is survived by: his children, Sherri (James Fender), Earlene (Margarito Carranza) and Terry; his daughter-in-law Di Murphy of Galax, Virginia; and his siblings, Eva Felts, Truby Davis of Winston-Salem and Clinton Murphy. He is also survived by several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
