He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin M. Bailey and Nina Dyer Grimes; his son Avery Bailey; his grandson Tyler Bailey; and his brothers, Melvin Bailey Jr. and Morris Bailey.

He is survived by: his wife Catherine Owens Bailey; his sons, Billy Bailey, Troy Bailey and Don Bailey; and his sister Shirley Swann. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
